Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill

At the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill (DHCI), you will find young adults to those past 100 who will look to you for their primary needs. As the largest long-term care facility in Delaware, DHCI provides the most comprehensive range of services including a Secure Care Unit, Adult Day Care, and Gero-Psych Team. Our "low tech/high touch" approach is enhanced by a computerized, interdisciplinary care planning system located at each nursing station.

DHCI is located on a beautiful 62-acre campus next to Lake Como. A fishing pier and gazebo highlight the attractive amenities of the campus.

The Delaware Psychiatric Center (DPC) offers innovative, progressive therapy and care designed to reach the most balanced professional care for the patient. DPC follows a decentralized nursing approach with a team structure behind each decision. The nursing department at DPC is an integral component of the treatment planning dynamic, where nurse input is encouraged and valued. Innovative nursing concepts have assured JCAHO-accredited standards. DPC nursing care is patterned after the OREM self care conceptual model. These concepts drive the practice from the original computerized nursing admission assessment, through daily charting by nursing assistants and active treatment facilitators.

Stockley Center, located in Georgetown, Delaware, is minutes from the beach and proximal to major cities such as Baltimore, Philadelphia and Washington. A popular facility for nurses since 1921, the campus boasts over 700 acres of wooded land and a tranquil atmosphere.

The mission of Stockley Center is to support and empower individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities to make choices, exercise and affirm their rights, and to live successfully in the community.

Nurses who provide services to individuals with disabilities play an important role in many areas such as:

  • Health and wellness coordination
  • Communicating and interpreting healthcare information for the individuals residing at the facility, their families and other members of the interdisciplinary team

Delaware Veteran's Home

Delaware has over 30,000 World War II veterans living in Delaware. These Delawareans sacrificed much to secure the freedoms we all enjoy today.

The Delaware Veterans Home features state of the art design and equipment. It houses a 30-bed dementia unit, in addition to the 90 beds reserved for skilled and/or intermediate care for the First State's veteran community.

The staff of the Delaware Veterans Home is committed to providing these veterans the highest quality of care in a warm and friendly environment. Our competent team of professionals, support staff, and volunteers are resident-focused and devoted to the veterans who live in the Delaware Veterans Home. We will be a recognized leader and driving force in providing the best in long term care, family wholeness, and ultimate enrichment for our heroes. In addition to working at one of the State Hospitals, Nurses working for the State of Delaware can also work for these divisions throughout the State:

  • Early Intervention Program (Assess, evaluate, coordinate and support the most vulnerable children from birth to three)
  • Developmental Disabilities Community Services (Monitor health and safety of those residing in neighborhood homes, apartment settings and foster care)
  • Medicaid and Medical Assistance (Assess, evaluate and case manage individuals and families in crisis situations)
  • Public Health Nursing (Case management, disease investigation, health teaching, counseling, community organizing and other activities carried out in clinics, home visits, community centers and more)
  • Health Facilities Licensing and Certification (charged with the enforcement of Federal Medicare regulations as well as Delaware State laws)
  • Long Term Care Residents Protection (Employ clinical investigative and interpersonal skills to promote the care, safety, and security of residents in long term care facilities)
  • Services for Aging and Adults with Physical Disabilities (Assist the vulnerable elderly as well as adults with physical disabilities by offering guidance, comfort and assistance, assuring each clients needs are properly addressed)
  • Community Mental Health Centers (Improving the quality of life for adults diagnosed with a serious mental illness, fostering self-sufficiency in a minimally restricted community setting)
